"Our mission is to reduce the causes and adverse consequences of poverty and to empower low-income individuals, families, and communities to achieve self-sufficiency through advocacy, resource utilization, and service delivery."

“I needed a push and they gave it to me. I'm blessed that Jackie was sitting in that courtroom that day, and decided to talk to me about the parenting program. It's a conversation that changed my life.”

—  Nick Harden, Community Action Agency Northwest AL Fatherhood Program/GED Particpant

This program is made possible by funding through the Alabama Department of Child Abuse and Neglect Prevention.

Community Action Agency of Northwest Alabama, Inc. is a private non-profit corporation. Incorporated under the law of the State of Alabama March 19, 1965 and organized for the purpose of planning, developing and administering programs and services designed to help eliminate poverty and encourage self-sufficiency. We are conveniently located in Franklin, Colbert and Lauderdale Counties to serve the residents of each county.  In April 2008 Community Action Agency of Northwest Alabama was designated by the Governor of Alabama, Bob Riley, as a Family Resource Center.
Our service area includes: Franklin, Colbert, and Lauderdale counties.

Our Vision

We view ourselves, the Community Action Agency of Northwest Alabama, Inc. as a unified, results oriented, community services partnership committed to increasing economic justice among the people who live in our community.  We will accomplish this vision through a capable, dedicated, and compassionate staff implementing carefully chosen programs which reduce the causes and adverse consequences of poverty and increase the self-sufficiency of those being served.

Community Action Agencies (CAA) are non-profit organizations fighting poverty at the local level. Established by the Economic Opportunity Act of 1964, CAA's operate in 96 percent of all cities and counties across the country. The nation's Community Action Agencies were the centerpiece of President Lyndon B. Johnson's "War on Poverty".

"Community Action changes people's lives, embodies the spirit of hope, improves our communities, and makes America a better place to live.
We care about the entire community, and we are dedicated to helping people help themselves and each other."
