What We Do


Community Action is honored to offer Utility Assistance to the North West Alabama community. We provide financial support to  low income, qualifying  families that are experiencing trouble paying their heating and cooling bills in an effort to avoid utilities being terminated. 





1. Applicant must be 150% poverty.

2. Low Income household

3. The Elderly and households with children are given priority. 

How to Apply:

** Appointments are encouraged for faster processing.**

Step One: Complete an Application:

         Download and Print the Application from the CAANW website, Complete Application  


            Pickup an Application from the CAANW Office in your county, Complete Application.

Step Two: Required Documents:

                   See the Energy Assistance Instruction Sheet and Guide on the front of the Application for a 

                   list of required documents.


Step Three: Apply for Utility Assistance

                     Make and Appointment on the CAANW website or by calling 256-764-5142


                     Bring your completed Application with the Required Documents to the CAANW Office in your 

                     county - We take a limited number of walk-in Applications on Mondays; on other days, call the Office to determine if we can accept additional Applications.


Step Four:  Notification of Application Status:

                   If you have not heard from our staff within 15 days of submitting an Application, please 

                   contact the CAANW Office in your county
