WHAT PEOPLE SAY

“I needed a push and they gave it to me. I'm blessed that Jackie was sitting in that courtroom that day, and decided to talk to me about the parenting program. It's a conversation that changed my life.”

Our Vision

We view ourselves, the Community Action Agency of Northwest Alabama, Inc. as a unified, results oriented, community services partnership committed to increasing economic justice among the people who live in our community.  We will accomplish this vision through a capable, dedicated, and compassionate staff implementing carefully chosen programs which reduce the causes and adverse consequences of poverty and increase the self-sufficiency of those being served.

Diversity and Inclusion Statement

Community Action of Northwest Alabama is dedicated to our mission: to reduce the causes and adverse consequences of poverty and to empower low-income individuals, families and communities to achieve self-sufficiency through advocacy, resource utilization and service delivery.

We commit ourselves to the health and well-being of everyone. The unequal treatment of our diverse community based on race, gender, social class, sexual orientation, physical ability, religion and other categories protected under Federal and Alabama law, is not tolerated. All services are available to all persons and are carried out in accordance with all funding sources requirements and stipulations.

Community Action was born as part of the civil rights movement almost 56 years ago. We continue to denounce all forms of violence and any acts that dehumanize anyone. The words of the National Community Action Promise continue to be a voice for who we are and what we believe: Community Action changes people’s lives, embodies the spirit of hope, improves communities and makes America a better place to live. We care about the entire community and we are dedicated to helping people help themselves and each other.

Community Action Agencies (CAA) are non-profit organizations fighting poverty at the local level. Established by the Economic Opportunity Act of 1964, CAA's operate in 96 percent of all cities and counties across the country. The nation's Community Action Agencies were the centerpiece of President Lyndon B. Johnson's "War on Poverty".

"Community Action changes people's lives, embodies the spirit of hope, improves our communities, and makes America a better place to live.
We care about the entire community, and we are dedicated to helping people help themselves and each other."
